As a little bit of fate would have it, Jesse Draxler ended up finding his way out to the west coast to share a gallery space with some friends for a week. We jumped on the opportunity to meet up with him for what we hoped was some painless conversation and a good time. We made the drive up with the guys from Youth Machine and as we arrived I got a text from Jesse. “Can you grab me some cigs. Menthols if you don’t mind.” I obliged and we circled around the block finding the world’s sketchiest 7-Eleven. The menthols went perfectly with the 6 pack of Negro Modelo, bottle of red wine, and Cazadores that we brought as gifts. As we walked into the studio that Jesse’s friends from FFFFILTH were kind enough to let him use, we were surprised by how unbearably hot it was in there. Part of the space was used as a printing press, so there were ink dryers ripping and roaring. not to mention it was smack dab in the middle of one of LA’s heat waves. We powered through the heat and our night in the studio carried on beautifully. Good talks, new ideas, big laughs, and massively shared hatred for the idea of student loans and our governments failure to protect students. One can only talk for so long just standing around when they have as much energy as Jesse does, so we left to play some video games and eat some Korean BBQ…which was delicious. Thanks Jesse for a great night, next time we’ll come out your way to hang.
