High hopes and over zealous forecasts create so much hype , especially when it is in regards to opening season, in any region on any planet. Even more so in Southern California.
With the extra long summer coming to an end and our favorite Puerto Rican wave slider’s extended trip winding down, we succumbed to the hype of this first NW swell and decided to go make sure they were right. ‘Let’s ride north boys -everyone agrees.
Camera bags packed, alarms set, buoys still reading strong signs of reward and a few guys looking to get on the road and into some more powerful longer, colder waves. The crew consisted of Josh Edwards, Hector Santamaria, Max Stewart, Drew Martin and myself ( LJ. )
We were all smiles even if it was 4:45 when we woke up. Time to go. We were meeting with our friend Charlie Fawcett who lives up that way and was excited to see us come surf his zone since he’d been surfing down here with us in ours a few times earlier that week. He called us first light to tell us not to rush to the point as it was not there yet. We knew where to go and where to end up at the end of the day.
Below are some of the images of the waves we found. Always good times. Epic surf or not, it’s the group you travel with that makes the experience and this small road trip was so fucking fun. Can’t wait for the next.
Special thanks to Charlie and his family for inviting our stinky surfed out selves to home cooked meals and so many laughs.
Good good great people.
